I wanted to leave this review to potentially help others who move onto base and are looking for veterinary care. I would not recommend the Kirtland vet. The man at the front desk is kind. The techs and the new captain, captain Glenn, are not. They’re overworked, understaffed, and it seems the office is always disorganized and in chaos since caption Glenn took over. I understand some of that is not their fault, but how they choose to treat people is their choice. I went back and forth with them for months about getting my dogs teeth cleaned and each time it was something different. Their responses were filled with excuses and lack of accountability for poor scheduling. I was told that if I didn’t like waiting, I could just go somewhere else. Which obviously is true, but it wasn’t the waiting that bothered me, it was the total lack of communication and lack of care. I was asked by one of the techs if my dogs teeth were falling out or if he had trouble eating. I told her no, but that he had gingivitis and she told me that he was fine to wait (I had been waiting 6 months at this point when they originally told me 3-4 before captain glenn showed up). I asked her why I would wait till it got to that point? The only reason I tried so hard to get his teeth cleaned here was because I believed it it was the most affordable option. I recently found another vet that is half the price, they only had a 1 month wait for teeth cleanings, and the staff is much more competent, so don’t assume you can’t get more affordable treatment and better treatment off base. I was also told by the Kirtland vet office that animals on a military base are the least of anyone’s concerns and they admitted that they will move people to the bottom of the list if they are not able to make last minute teeth cleanings (Which I was never offered btw even though I told them multiple times I could do last minute. They blamed it on me not sending in bloodwork even though I told them multiple times that I wanted new bloodwork). Why they don’t just schedule people and try their best to stick to the schedule is beyond me. After everything and how the staff behaved, I was genuinely worried that they would purposely do a bad job on my dogs teeth because they were annoyed with me advocating for him. Captain Glenn is new to the office and I assume is the reason why things have gone so downhill. She was the one that told me I could go somewhere else if I didn’t like waiting and that seems very unprofessional for someone in a high leadership position. I wouldn’t be surprised if they comment on my review trying to make this situation my fault like they did when I would speak to them on the phone. There are other options for military families and we don’t have to settle!

If you are a 100 percent disabled veteran and get your DD FORM 3208 IDENTIFICATION AND PRIVILEGE CARD, you will be able to use the Commissary, gas station, gym, and most importantly the veterinary clinic here on base.

We recently became the home for 2 separately newly rehomed adult dogs. The vet covered everything as previous medical care was sketchy for both. Both have had vaccines, physicals, bloodwork, etc. Both are scheduled for getting spayed. With TLC for skin issues due to allergies and follow-ups, the oldest dog will begin to feel better soon.
