The vet and technicians at Acequia were great but it was the person at the front desk and her positive demeanor that got us to try this practice in the first place. People on the front lines make a big difference in how clients perceive a business, so those folks up front who are professional and courteous deserve much kudos and recognition. Thanks!

When my little one had an allergic reaction to a vaccine, they took him in immediately. I had to wait for the meds to work. The doctor lent me a blanket for my little one. As I sat there, a young woman was in tears. The doctor was comforting her. Her fur baby had passed.

I brought my new puppy in for a wellness visit and specifically raised concerns to the vet about possible ear issues, GI symptoms, and eye discharge. I came prepared with a checklist, a stool sample for PCR testing, and a slide/sample of debris I had removed from her ears. Unfortunately, I left this vet office feeling dismissed. I was told that the puppy did not appear to have an ear infection based on visual inspection, and I felt my concerns were attributed to being overly sensitive because of a previous experience with another puppy who had ear mites. In that prior situation, I had also brought in ear debris to this same vet that was not examined, and I ultimately had to purchase a lab microscope with photo capabilities to identify the mites myself and seek additional care from a second opinion vet before my puppy was properly treated. At this recent puppy health checkup appointment, I had to insist that samples be taken from both ears and examined. I am glad I did, because I later received a message confirming that bacteria was found in the ear that I was concerned about, with early signs in the other ear as well. The puppy also needed medication to clear up coccidiosis found in her stool sample. My concern is not about being right; it is about making sure a puppy is properly evaluated and treated. I do appreciate the vet tech who listened and helped move the testing forward. However, I was disappointed that I had to push so hard for basic diagnostic testing from the licensed vet when I brought clear concerns and supporting samples. A visual exam alone should not be used to dismiss a possible ear infection when lab analysis can provide a resolute answer. After the appointment, I sent a follow-up email to the clinic outlining my concerns and requesting clarification on my puppy's test results and treatment plan, but I did not receive a response from the vet or the office. I hope the clinic uses this as an opportunity to improve communication with clients and to take owner observations seriously, especially when a pet cannot speak for itself. I want a collaborative relationship with a veterinary team, and I need to feel that reasonable concerns are heard rather than minimized.
